Manchester United player Bruno Fernandes gives verdict on Paul Pogba link up vs Tottenham

Bruno Fernandes said he has a good connection with Paul Pogba after the Manchester United pair linked up for the first time.

Both Fernandes and Pogba were instrumental for United in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham as they produced a far improved second half display to fight back from a goal down.

After Steven Bergwijn opened the scoring for Spurs, United levelled through a Fernandes penalty - which was won by Pogba, who induced a foul from Eric Dier. It was just rewards for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his side, who introduced Pogba and Mason Greenwood to great effect after the hour mark.

Fernandes spoke to Sky Sports after the game and revealed how he'd been getting along with Pogba in United training.

"We're training hard in the past weeks and when we were in groups, I was in a group with Paul," revealed Fernandes. "To find a connection is easier, but I find a good connection with everyone. The most important is the team and I think Paul thinks the same.

"Paul won the penalty, I kicked and we're happy. Most important is the team and winning, it doesn't matter who scored or assisted. As a team we need to look for the Champions League. We need to try to catch the ones up front and we are one point closer and they need to play. We will see."

Fernandes declared the draw a good result for United, after three months away from competitive action due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Old Trafford club go to within two points of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Fernandes added: "I think we did very well. It was a difficult game. We started good with our ideas, but they scored on the counter.

"But I think we worked hard all the time in the game. We scored and we had a lot of chances to score one more. It's not enough for us because we want to win in every game, but I think it's a good result. We are not happy but it's a good result.

"Maybe in the second half we create more chances than the first half but I think the game in full was good after a long stop, we did very well."
