Manchester United player Bruno Fernandes explains why he doesn't care about his transfer fee

Bruno Fernandes admits the modern transfer market is 'crazy' following his move to Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Portugal international Fernandes completed his £46.5million move to United on a five-and-a-half year contract with the option of an additional year.

The 25-year-old has also rewarded United with a number of impressive performances with three goals and four assists in just nine appearances.

Fernandes' fee could rise to almost £70million with add-ons but he has already shown signs that he'll be able to justify that, although he insists he won't let the financial figures dictate his legacy at Old Trafford.

“The market at the moment is crazy," Fernandes told Portuguese outlet Canal 11.

"I recently discussed the transfer market with some teammates. Let’s remember the super team that Manchester had, the great Real Madrid team. Some of the players who were bought for this amount were Ballon d'Or a few years ago.

“It is difficult to compare football now with the old days. The numbers are always just numbers. Regardless of what they paid for me, whether it’s millions or hundreds, I have to do my best and give the maximum I can. It’s not because they paid millions that I have to do more. The fact you want to give more should come from within you, not because of what’s been paid.”
