Manchester United player Alex Telles on crutches

Alex Telles is on crutches as he recovers from an injury that has ruled him out for the start of the new season.

The Manchester United left-back sustained an ankle injury in training at Pennyhill Park, where United were based for their first UK training camp, on the eve of the friendly with Queens Park Rangers on July 28.

Telles, 28, attended United's 2-2 draw with Brentford at Old Trafford on Wednesday and appeared to be on crutches and was pictured on them while leaving a restaurant in Alderley Edge on Sunday evening.

Telles was also wearing a protective boot on his right ankle and is set to be unavailable for United's games against Leeds United, Southampton and Wolves this month.

“Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for," Solskjaer said last week. "His ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think.

“That is football. We’ve got kids wanting to play of course. Brandon [Williams] has done well in the left-back position."

Diogo Dalot made his first appearance of pre-season at left-back in the second-half of United's draw with Brentford. Dalot and Williams could still leave before the transfer window closes on August 31 amid interest in both full-backs.

United players Juan Mata, Bruno Fernandes, Victor Lindelof, David de Gea, Tom Heaton, and Andreas Pereira met for lunch on Saturday and were joined by Paul Pogba.
