Manchester United plans for Nathan Bishop revealed following contract extension

Manchester United plan to loan young goalkeeper Nathan Bishop out after he signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The 21-year-old 'keeper has agreed a new deal at Old Trafford until June 2023, with the option for a further year.

Bishop joined from Southend United a year ago and has been a regular in first-team training alongside the likes of David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Sergio Romero.

The United youngster is yet to make his debut for the senior side but will now be loaned out to a Football League side in order to continue with his development plan.

A number of League One and League two sides are already showing an interest with an official announcement on his future expected in the coming days.

“Yeah definitely," Bishop told MUTV when asked if he wanted a loan move. "You learn your trade in playing games, that’s the most exciting thing, playing games and preparing for them. I’m very excited to step out and hopefully be able to play for a team and put all the year’s work into that.”

"We do this for a job and when you know there are things on the line for people you have to step things up and make it count. To just get three points and go home knowing you’ve done the job that you were there to do is a very exciting thing to hopefully go and do.”

United have prioritised the development of their youth hopefuls this season with 11 players allowed to leave the club on loan in the summer transfer window.

Although not all of the deals have been as successful as others the club is still keen for the brightest young players to play meaningful minutes in a senior environment.
