Manchester United outline plans for Shola Shoretire and Amad

Manchester United will continue to ease Shola Shoretire into the first-team after he became the club's youngest debutant in Europe.

At 17 years and 23 days, Shoretire beat Norman Whiteside's 38-year record when he came on in the second-half of United's goalless draw with Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Shoretire made his career debut against Newcastle on Saturday, having only been added to the first-team training bubble less than a month ago.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent on Shoretire and fellow teenager Amad in the second-half against Sociedad for invaluable experience against the fifth-placed side in La Liga.

"Well, Karen {Shotbolt, the press officer] or Shola wants you to pronounce his name properly," Solskjaer said. "I know it's not easy: Shoretire (pronounced 'Shor-teer-ay'].

"Shola is going to be a good player for us and sometimes you need to test him against good players and we knew Real Sociedad are a good team with good individuals and they press. We felt today Amad had to come on - Dan had to come off - and Shola, the two of them, will need these little introductions to this type of level.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains why he opted to go strong against Real Sociedad

"He's a young kid we believe in, great attitude. You can see the shape of him. Physically, he'll be an athlete, technically very, very good, makes good decisions, we're going to gradually feed him into this team.

"And he's grounded, got his feet firmly on the ground, works hard in training, a very likeable boy we can see loads of in the future."

Shoretire could stay in the United squad for Sunday's Premier League trip to Chelsea, depending on the fitness of Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani, who were absent for the Sociedad stalemate.
