Manchester United 'open talks' for Edinson Cavani and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have opened talks with free agent Edinson Cavani, according to reports.

It is claimed by the Daily Mail that the former Paris Saint-Germain striker, 33, is demanding more than £200,000-per-week and that Atletico Madrid, Benfica and Inter Miami are all keen.

Cavani is vastly experienced and played alongside another former United free agent in Zlatan Ibrahimovic for PSG. MEN Sport understands that the Uruguayan was not expecting a United move this summer, but the latest reports come amid the Old Trafford club's struggles to secure attacking reinforcements in this window.

Jadon Sancho has been their top target all summer but Borussia Dortmund have maintained their stance that the 20-year-old England international is not for sale.

Elsewhere, it seems United's prospective move for Barcelona wide man Ousmane Dembele may have hit the rocks if reports in France are to be believed.

Lyon duo Houssem Aouar nor Memphis Depay will both remain at the club, according to RMC Sport, amid interest from Barcelona in ex-Unted man Depay. It is claimed that could mean the Catalan club will not offload Dembele amid interest from United in a loan.

Dembele emerged as a possible alternative to Sancho for United in terms of right-wing targets.

On the Frenchman's future, Barca boss Ronald Koeman said: "Dembele is a Barcelona player, [his future] depends on what he thinks. I've not spoken clearly with him about it. We will see, two days left.

"We have a lot of competition in attack. Ansu [Fati] started the first two games ahead of him. If a player's not happy, they can speak to me. And Ousmane's not said anything to me. If he stays, I'm counting on him and he will get chances to play."
