Manchester United Old Trafford improvements revealed

Manchester United have spent £20million upgrading Old Trafford during the close season and have committed to further investments.

As other Premier League clubs move to new modern grounds United are still in their original stadium and the last time it was expanded the quadrants were added in 2006.

Manchester United Supporters' Trust called on the club last year to expand the capacity of the ground to make it the biggest stadium in Europe and while the money spent this summer has not been spent on expansion the club say they are committed to investment in order to enhance fan experience.

Colette Roche, chief operating officer said: "We continue to invest in improvements across multiple areas at Old Trafford to enhance the experience for our fans, including security improvements and significant improvements for our disabled fans.”

The club have not elaborated on what investments could be made in the future.

Money spent this summer included a big investment in improvement on facilities for disabled fans including 118 new wheelchair positions and 158 new amenity seats in various positions around the ground, including a new concourse at the back of the Stretford End.

Other money has also been spent on security improvements both externally and internally, a new matchday production room to facilitate the operation of VAR and upgrades to some of the hospitality suites.

While fans look to the club to modernise and expand the stadium, it is understood that as well as logistical reasons in expanding the south stand the understanding is that the club cannot continue to spend big sums in the transfer window and spend on modernising the stadium.
