Manchester United officials ‘in Amsterdam to seal Antony transfer’ and other rumours

Erik ten Hag is poised to land Ajax attacker Antony as his first signing as Manchester United manager, according to reports.

The winger scored 12 goals and assisted 10 more this season as he lifted the Eredivisie title under the new Old Trafford boss. The Brazilian has been linked with a potential switch to United for a number of months and now is said to be close to securing the transfer.

The Sun adds that club officials flew to Amsterdam on Tuesday to get a deal over the line. It is reported United will pay around £40m for Antony.

The player is fond of Ten Hag, having won two Dutch titles and a cup together at Ajax. In his farewell message to the manager ahead of his exit for Manchester, he said: "Know that I will always stand with you if you need me."

Meanwhile, ESPN reports that Barcelona are blaming La Liga financial rules on their high asking price for Frenkie de Jong. The Catalan club want north of £70m for their midfielder but United are reluctant to spend more than £60m.

Barcelona find themselves in a dire financial situation with debts of around £1bn. As a result, they have had their salary cap restricted by La Liga and are being forced to think about selling key players.

The club has now blamed the league for their unwillingness to negotiate lower, despite very much wanting to offload De Jong. Earlier this month, the Manchester Evening News reported that United were looking at alternatives targets to De Jong if a fee cannot be agreed.
