Jude Bellingham is exactly the kind of player Manchester United need and, by default, Old Trafford remains the most likely destination should he leave Borussia Dortmund.
That's the message from BT Sport pundit and former Liverpool winger, Steve McManaman, who has offered United encouragement in the next race to sign a player they pursued when he headed to Germany in 2020.
Bellingham has established himself as one of the hottest properties in Europe after progressing through the youth ranks at Birmingham City before being a key player with Dortmund.
The all-action 18-year-old midfielder has already been capped 10 times by England at senior level.
Under contract until 2025, it would take an almighty fee if one of the Premier League big boys come calling.
However, due to United's need to strengthen in that position - added to their well-stocked rivals - Bellingham may well be an Old Trafford superstar in waiting, according to McManaman.
Speaking to Horseracing.net, he said: "He's got all the attributes to be a superstar.
"When you look through the teams and the sides that could buy him, Manchester United would need that type of player as a central midfielder. Manchester City with Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva. Not so much.
"Liverpool have got Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Fabinho. Of course, it would be a great signing as he's a great player, but whether Liverpool need him now is another thing.
"Henderson is moving towards the end of his career, James Milner also. So Liverpool could take another midfielder, but it's very congested in there. Gini Wijnaldum left the club in the summer and people said they needed to replace him, but they didn't. Whether people move on and Jurgen brings Jude in is another thing."
McManaman added: "City could accommodate him, but they've got a plethora of great players there.
