Manchester United news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refuses to enter war of words with Romelu Lukaku

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to enter a war of words with Romelu Lukaku after the striker’s criticism of Manchester United.

Lukaku completed a £73m move to Internazionale on the final day of the English transfer window, having fallen out of favour under Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the LightHarted Podcast, the Belgian claimed that a culture of leaks at United had made him feel unwanted and effectively forced him out of the club.

Lukaku’s interview with NBA player Josh Hart was recorded while he was still a United player but only surfaced on Wednesday.

When Solskjaer was asked to respond to Lukaku’s comments, he said: “I’m not going to dive into that one. Part of that interview was made when he was a Man United player, so I’d rather not.”

In April, Lukaku’s agent Federico Pastorello told Sky Sports that his client was “very open” to moving away from United.

Lukaku himself expressed a desire to move to Italy last October, prior to Solskjaer’s appointment and losing his starting place.

However, the 26-year-old insisted on the podcast recording that “a lot of stuff has been said where I didn’t feel protected.”

“I felt like [there were] a lot of rumours: “Rom going there”; “They don’t want Rom”, and nobody came out to shut it down.

“It was for a good three, four weeks. I’m waiting for someone to come out and shut it down. It didn’t happen.”
