Here are the Manchester United evening headlines on Wednesday, February 17.
Trio ruled out
Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani will miss Manchester United's Europa League round-of-32 first leg against Real Sociedad.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Van de Beek and Cavani have both sustained muscular injuries, while Paul Pogba will not play again this month due to a thigh injury.
Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay are doubts but will travel to Turin with the squad on Wednesday afternoon.
"With Paul, he's recovering well," Solskjaer said. "He's starting the treatment and will still be a few weeks, he won't be playing in February, that's for sure. So still a few weeks until we see Paul, definitely.
"Apart from that, we have a couple of doubtful ones [to see] if they'll be fit enough. Anthony and Scott, we'll have to check them tomorrow. Edinson and Donny definitely not travelling."
Mason Greenwood, who flanked Solskjaer for the pre-match Zoom call, is expected to return to the XI against Sociedad, while Dean Henderson, Alex Telles and Nemanja Matic are also in line for recalls.
Keeper cull
United are expected to cull their goalkeeping department by releasing at least three keepers in the summer.
Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira are both expected to be released as United have no intention of triggering the one-year extension in either player's contract.
Romero, 33, has not played all season and is effectively fifth-choice behind David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Lee Grant and Nathan Bishop. The Argentina goalkeeper was unable to engineer a transfer in either of the last two windows and is marooned at United until the end of the season.
Pereira, 24, has played once in the Championship for Huddersfield, the latest in a string of disastrous loans, and has not appeared for United in more than three years.
Popular Under-23 'keeper Paul Woolston, 22, is due to be let go after spending two-and-a-half years with the second string and Grant, 38, is out of contract in June and unlikely to have his playing contract extended.
New role for Greenwood?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Mason Greenwood is capable of playing in a new position for United.
Greenwood faced the media on Wednesday on the back of signing a new long-term contract with the club.
"I don’t mind (where I play)," said the teenager. "I could play anywhere across the front three. I can play on the right, up front and even sometimes on the left. For me, it’s just about adapting into any position I go in. If it’s up front or on the right, I don’t really mind, really. I’ll take it as they come."
Solskjaer felt Greenwood was too modest with his reply, saying: "Mason was a bit shy there because he can play No.10, as well as a shadow striker.
"He can play right, centre forward, 10 and, at a stretch, maybe on the left. We just have to give him time to find his final position.
"He’s a forward who moves really well along the line at the moment at his age and at his development. Physically, sometimes you don’t want to be right up in the mix and in the middle with the big brutal centre-backs next to you. So I think we’ve found that he can play both really.
"That will be in the next year or two, if he’s going to be a No.9 or a forward or, as I said, as a shadow striker, in and around the goal. Definitely, we need him there even though his link up play and general play has improved a lot."
