Manchester United morning headlines messages sent on Cristiano Ronaldo and Donny van de Beek

Here are your Manchester United headlines for Thursday, November 12.

United must not count on Cristiano Ronaldo to bring back the glory days

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a return to Manchester United, with the Portuguese forward reportedly open to the idea of a move away from Juventus next summer.

The Portuguese forward is a legend at Old Trafford having previously led United to Premier League and Champions League glory. The prospect of a potential return to the club is an exciting one for supporters.

However, MEN’s Richard Fay argues the Reds mustn’t count on Ronaldo to bring back the glory days and instead should focus their attentions on building a new dynasty for the future.

From the player’s perspective, Ronaldo might also prefer a fresh challenge. He has, after all, won all there is to win in the English game in his first spell as a Manchester United player.

Fans make a predictable point after Netherlands game

United supporters have once again demanded Donny van de Beek be handed more game time after the midfielder scored for Netherlands.

The 23-year-old arrived at Old Trafford as the Reds’ first signing of the summer window, but has so far struggled to force his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favoured lineup, starting just four games this season.

This has led to a clamour for van de Beek to play more often and this was only heightened by the Dutchman’s well-taken goal in the international friendly against Spain on Wednesday night.

“Solskjaer has to start him” tweeted one supporter, while another echoed similar sentiment. “He is such a baller, deserves a start against West Brom.”

Van de Beek reveals Solskjaer has told him to remain patient

Van de Beek has revealed Solskjaer has told him to remain patient as the Dutch midfielder continues to be eased into the United first team.

The 23-year-old hasn’t featured as much as many envisaged following his summer move from Ajax, but van de Beek is still confident consistent game time will soon come his way.

“It sounds cliché for me to say this, because of course I would have liked to play more, but I really enjoy being in a nice team. I am simply received very well and helped by everyone,” van de Beek told NOS after Netherlands’ international friendly defeat to Spain in which the midfielder found the back of the net.

“I'm a patient person, but of course you go there to play as much as possible. I also think – in the minutes that I have made, in the times that I have come in – I have shown that I can add something to the team.”
