Manchester United morning headlines including how Lionel Messi could be signed as free agent

Here are the Manchester United morning headlines for Saturday, November 14.

United could move for Messi – and save millions

Manchester United demonstrated that they are not averse at delving into the free-agent market, having signed Edinson Cavani following his release from Paris Saint-Germain.

And, as the Reds could repeat the trick next summer, MEN Sport has looked at those potential agents which might save the club millions.

First up is David Alaba, the Bayern Munich defender whose relationship with his club has broken down in recent weeks, with the Austrian upset at the Bundesliga side’s withdrawal of a new, long-term contract.

Manchester United writers discuss Paul Pogba's future

His team-mate, centre-back Jerome Boateng, who could also be on his way out of Bayern next summer.

Then there is the small matter of Lionel Messi, who could be the biggest free agent on the market next summer, having been forced to stay at Barcelona for this season, despite making clear his desire to leave.

Teenage striker tipped for the top

Manchester United supporters believe that youngster Isak Hansen-Aaroen is destined for big things after he scored his first goal for the Under-18s on Friday.

The Norwegian, who joined United from Tromso in the summer, has become a regular in the U18s, as well as making an appearance for the Under-23s in the EFL Trophy – a game in which he scored in a victorious penalty shoot-out against Rochdale.

The skilful playmaker has now grabbed his first goal for the club in open play, doing so in Friday’s 4-1 win at Middlesbrough.

Fans took to Twitter to express their excitement at Hansen-Aaroen – who is not the only young arrival to make an impressive start to life in Manchester.

Striker Joe Hugill added two more goals to his ever-growing tally in the match, while Real Madrid left-back Alvaro Fernandez also recently scored his first goal.

McTominay’s Scotland performances may benefit United

United midfielder Scott McTominay played a key role in Scotland qualifying Euro 2020 this week – and his international role can help his club.

MEN Sport’s Tyrone Marshall thinks the 22–year-old has quickly increased his leadership skills with Scotland, which is something United are crying out for.

He writes: “Repurposed as a centre-back by Steve Clarke, McTominay has been outstanding for Scotland recently and scored penalties in the play-off shoot-out victories against Israel at Hampden Park and in the dramatic final in Serbia on Thursday night.

“Not only is McTominay again demonstrating his leadership skills with the Tartan Army, but his positional switch could benefit United in the future.”
