Manchester United morning headlines as squad revealed for Arsenal game

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Sunday, November 1.

United team news ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester United will be without Alex Telles for today’s game against Arsenal after the left-back tested positive for coronavirus.

But Brandon Williams could make his first appearance of the season following his inclusion in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 20-man provisional squad.

Anthony Martial is serving the final game of his three-match suspension, while Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard remain sidelined.

Odion Ighalo, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Facundo Pellistri were not seen arriving at the Lowry Hotel on Saturday night.

Solskjaer defends selection policy with new signings

Solskjaer has insisted he is “happy” with the club’s summer signings.

The United boss has been criticised for his decision to repeatedly leave Donny van de Beek on the bench following his arrival from Ajax.

But Solskjaer has claimed that the early involvement of new players is dependent on different circumstances.

“First of all, I'm not worried about any credit that I'm getting or not getting [for signing players],” he said. “That's not my job to get credit or not for that.

“But different players take different time to adapt. Some players walk straight into a team and it's like they've never been apart. Some players might need a bit of time to gel. That's just different circumstances.

“I think we've signed well, I'm very happy with the signings we've made, I think all of them have made an impact. They are players we've targeted for a little while and I'm happy with them.”

Solskjaer comments on Greenwood’s England status

Solskjaer has admitted he doesn’t “want to interfere” in Gareth Southgate’s England selection.

Mason Greenwood was left out of Gareth Southgate’s last squad after breaking Covid-19 protocol along with Manchester City’s Phil Foden when England faced Iceland back in September.

But Solskjaer has refused to address the teenager’s England future, instead backing Southgate to pick whoever he sees fit.

“Well, it's Gareth's decision who he wants in his team and I had a very good conversation with him before the last squad get-together,” said Solskjaer.

“I don't want to interfere. It's his decision who he picks of course and if he wants to pick any of my players they are available of course.

“You're not getting me into this discussion, definitely, I'm not giving you any headlines!

“I'm full of admiration for the way Gareth is managing the England squad and I think he has done a fantastic job. I'll leave him to focus on his job and me on mine.”
