Manchester United morning headlines as Solskjaer claims error made over Paul Pogba

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Sunday, 25 October.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes Paul Pogba admission

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has conceded that he might have been too hasty in throwing Paul Pogba straight back into the starting 11 this season.

The French World Cup winner’s pre-season preparations was disrupted after testing positive for coronavirus shortly before the 2020/21 campaign got underway.

Pogba started the home defeats to Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur, but has been used as more of an impact substitute since the international break.

"When you've got good players it's a nice challenge and a decision to make when you've got good players on the bench that can come on and impact the game," Solskjaer said after yesterday’s goalless draw.

Solskjaer gives verdict on Edinson Cavani's debut against Chelsea

"I think Paul, all three games this week, he's really come on and made a very positive impact.

"He's been out for a while with coronavirus this summer, so he's getting better and better and maybe more his shape. Maybe I was unfair to him starting him that early in the first few games but he's coming on and he's done great when he's come on."

Frank Lampard explains what he said to Solskjaer in touchline exchange

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has admitted that there wasn’t much entertainment value in their 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The former midfielder, who made over 600 appearances for the Blues as a player, could be seen talking with Solskjaer in the closing stages of the game.

"I said that!” Lampard confirmed when Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves said he noticed him telling Solskjaer 'it looks like nobody is winning this' in the closing stages.

“It wasn't a classic, was it? If I was at half five waiting for Man United against Chelsea, as a neutral for sure, you want more.

"But I think at the start of this season I've been watching games, I watched the lunchtime game today (West Ham's 1-1 draw with Manchester City), tough games.

“People are trying to find things and we're the same, we have to be humble to that and say we need to work and get better.

"But if you're going to come here... we came here last year and, for me, we were the best team on the pitch for the first 60 minutes and lost 4-0.”

Patrice Evra makes brutal Donny van de Beek assessment

The thinking behind spending a reported £35.7m on Donny van de Beek has been questioned by former United left-back Patrice Evra.

The 23-year-old Netherlands international has struggled for opportunities after his summer move from Ajax, with all four of his Premier League appearances coming off the bench.

He was an unused substitute against Chelsea and watched from the stands as United searched for a goal in the closing stages.

“A team like Man United needs to be in charge, they need to be in control of the game, not waiting for the last 15 minutes to bring on Paul [Pogba] and [Edinson] Cavani,” Evra said on Sky Sports.

“Maybe they should start, maybe not. I just want to see the best players play.

"We’re talking about Van de Beek, nothing against the kid, but why has he bought him? He’s watching the game from the stand every game. We don’t need him, that’s the truth.”
