Manchester United morning headlines as Sancho 'could agitate transfer' and Grealish questioned

Here are the Manchester United morning headlines for Monday, July 6.

Souness doubts Grealish’s capacity to play at highest level

Manchester United will hope to sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish when the transfer window opens, with the attacking midfielder seen as one of the most creative and skillful players in the bottom half of the Premier League.

One statistic which is regularly highlighted about the 24-year-old is of him being the most-fouled player in the Premier League — but Graeme Souness doesn’t see this as a positive.

Instead, the three-time European Cup winner feels it suggests Grealish is missing opportunities to move play on quickly.

"[Being fouled most] means I’m holding on to the ball for too long. It means I’m...taking an extra touch when I don’t need to. It means you’re not seeing the picture quick enough,” he said on Sky Sports.

"He’s got ability. He’s silky on the eye, but I’m yet to be convinced by him. When I was being coached at our club Liverpool, I was told that I made the strikers’ mind up. With my body movement, the way I get the ball out of my feet, I’m making them run before I even kick the ball.

"I just think anyone who gets tackled that much, and draws that many fouls, is not seeing the picture quick enough.”

Sancho could “agitate” to force Dortmund exit

It’s no secret that Jadon Sancho is one of the most wanted players in Europe right now, with the bulk of the admiration coming from the Premier League.

United have identified the Borussia Dortmund man as a priority target, but the German club have said they are relaxed about his future with them.

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast , presenter Ian McGarry suggested he could envisage Sancho doing his best to force an exit .

“In these scenarios, once you've agreed with the player and the player obviously has indicated his desire to leave and join you, then it usually helps in terms of the player's insistence at his current club with regards to: 'I want to leave, I know what I'm going for, I know what I'm doing, so if you don't allow me to leave then I will agitate',” he said.

Elsewhere, Spanish outlet Marca say Real Madrid will let James Rodriguez leave for €25million, but he is not considered a priority at Old Trafford due to his age and wages.

Van Persie takes note of Greenwood impact

Mason Greenwood is making waves and another two goals at the weekend had the comparisons with former United striker Robin van Persie on peoples’ tongues once more.

One fan asked the Dutch icon about Greenwood’s performances — and Van Persie seems to have been suitably impressed .

“Yeah I am [watching him]!” he said on Twitter .

“Great team play at the first goal, clever movement, silky first touch and class finish of Greenwood.”

Greenwood now has 15 goals for the season across all competitions.
