Manchester United morning headlines as Roy Keane gives verdict on season so far

United still tracking Telles ahead of transfer window closure

Manchester United are in talks to sign Porto full-back Alex Telles before the transfer window slams shuts on October 5.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s primary target, but the Norwegian boss is open to bringing in another left back, and Telles is the front-runner.

Telles is out of contract at the end of the season, and Sergio Conceicao’s side may look to cash in on the 27-year old to avoid losing him for free in 2021.

Solskjaer is not expected to sign a new centre-back before the window closes, despite being linked with RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.

Keane unimpressed with start to season

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has criticised the club’s underwhelming start to the season, labelling their campaign kick-off as ‘not great’.

Keane told Sky Sports that United need to improve at both ends of the pitch following their defeat by Crystal Palace and a last-gasp win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

"Obviously, they would’ve been pleased with the result against Brighton, I know it’s early days, but they’ve given up a lot of goals and a lot of chances against both Palace and Brighton,” he said . "The signs aren’t great with the amount of chances they’ve given up in the first two games.

"It would be different if it was against Man City or Liverpool, but you’d expect them to do better against Palace and against Brighton.”

Andreas on brink of Lazio move

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira will join Serie A side Lazio in the coming days, according to the Italian club’s sporting director Igli Tare.

"We expect Andreas Pereira to be completed in the next two or three days with Manchester United,” he said.
