France boss Deschamps speaks out on Pogba role
Paul Pogba found himself back on the bench for Manchester United at the weekend, playing just eight minutes of the victory over Everton.
The Frenchman has started just four times in the league this season, while two of his three Champions League appearances have come from the bench.
Recent comments from Pogba have breathed new life into links with Real Madrid, though the midfielder is still very much a United player.
France manager Didier Deschamps, who called up Pogba for Les Bleus’ upcoming fixtures, was asked about the midfielder in his press conference going into matches against Finland, Portugal and Sweden.
“Paul, I know him well and he knows the group well,” Deschamps said.
“He is in a situation with his club where he cannot be happy, neither with his playing time, nor with his positioning.
“He is not in his best period, he has had a series of injuries and the Covid-19 which has hit him quite hard. He needs to find his rhythm.
"The match he had to make last month was good and consistent despite a lack of pace. We cannot however say that he is fulfilled in what he does at his club.”
Phil Neville slams ‘disgraceful’ Pogba omission
Former United man Phil Neville has hit out at the club’s decision to drop Paul Pogba from the starting line-up for their last two games.
As well as missing out on a starting spot against Everton, Pogba watched on as United put in a dismal first-half display against Istanbul Basaksehir in Europe, only coming on for the final half-hour.
Pogba’s most recent start saw him give away a decisive penalty, but Neville spoke out about the midfielder’s omission.
"I still think it's absolutely disgraceful that Pogba can't get in that team,” the former United and Everton player told Premier League Productions .
"For United to win a league, for United to be successful, for United to play the style of football that Ole wants them to plan then Pogba has to play.
"You can play one of them: Matic, Fred or McTominay, and then you can play Pogba with (Bruno) Fernandes."
United reportedly ‘consider’ another Henderson loan
Dean Henderson was welcomed back into the Manchester United fold this season after impressing on loan at Sheffield United last term.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper has played three times after returning to provide competition for David de Gea, but none of those appearances have come in the Premier League.
And now, according to reports, United may be open to letting the academy product leave on loan in January.
According to ESPN , Henderson has been told by England manager Gareth Southgate that he won’t be able to supplant Jordan Pickford as No.1 for the national side if he isn’t playing regular club football.
Henderson won his first senior England call-up while on loan at Sheffield United last season, but is yet to be capped by the Three Lions.
The youngster, who impressed as Sheffield United won promotion from the Championship before returning for a second stint on loan at Bramall Lane last season, signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford in August.
However, the Champions League defeat in Istanbul earlier this month was his only appearance since the end of September.
