Manchester United morning headlines as messages issued on Pogba and Tuanzebe

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Thursday, 22 October.

Why Pogba started PSG win on the bench

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed that his substitute appearance against Paris Saint-Germain was pre-planned.

Pogba was introduced as a 67th-minute replacement for Alex Telles before teeing up Marcus Rashford for the winner at the Parc des Princes.

And the Frenchman has revealed that his substitution was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s game plan.

"It [his substitution against PSG] was prepared," he told RMC Sport . "We had prepared well for the match.

"We know that they are very strong offensively, and we had to block that. Afterwards, we started especially well and we had chances. [We] managed to score.

"We knew what awaited us [in Paris]. All the players were ready for this match — the result came as it should have come. They had chances, we also had some and we materialised. The result is positive."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hails Axel Tuanzebe's performance against PSG

Tuanzebe can play in midfield - Giggs

Ryan Giggs believes Axel Tuanzebe has the skills to flourish in central midfield for United.

Tuanzebe impressed on his return to the team against PSG, helping to keep Kylian Mbappe under wraps and putting himself in contention for a regular starting spot.

And Giggs, who watched Tuanzebe’s progress as a coach under Louis van Gaal, believes the 22-year-old could command United’s midfield in the years ahead.

Giggs told Webby & O’Neill’s YouTube channel : “First of all, he’s a really good lad with a good mentality.

“All Axel’s got to do now is stay fit, play games because he’s got all of the attributes. He can handle the ball, he can even play in midfield.

“We thought about playing him in midfield when he was fit, under Louis. He can read the game well, he’s quick - I think he showed that [against PSG]."

United confidence growing - Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand says he has been informed that United’s confidence is being rebuilt following back-to-back wins.

United bounced back from a humiliating 6-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur to beat Newcastle United and PSG, easing the pressure on Solskjaer.

And Ferdinand believes the team have found their togetherness after two positive results.

"There are moments in a season that can kick-start your season,” he told BT Sport .

“If you get a good performance in a big game, this was that.

"You hear the noises coming out of Old Trafford at the moment - they’re saying the team are playing together now, there’s an understanding, the character is back, the confidence is coming back.”
