Manchester United morning headlines as Madrid defender rumours continue

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Monday, September 7.

United defender messages Upamecano

Highly-rated central defender Dayot Upamecano made his international debut for France at the weekend. The 21-year-old helped the reigning World Cup holders to a clean sheet and a 1-0 win over Sweden in the UEFA Nations League.

He shared a photo on Instagram to mark the occasion, which was guaranteed to have fans checking out which players liked the post or added a comment.

And Manchester United supporters were quick to notice that Timothy Fosu-Mensah left a clapping hands emoji in the comments after liking the post.

Could the RB Leipzig man be on his way to Old Trafford any time soon?

Real Madrid defender 'offered to United'

Whether Upamecano joins the Reds or not, they could be set to land another top defender.

And apparently the player in question – Sergio Reguilon – has actually been offered to them by his club, according to the latest reports. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Real Madrid are pushing the left-back in the direction of Manchester, after he spent the last season on loan with Europa League winners Sevilla.

M.E.N. Sport understands that the club are monitoring the 23-year-old, and Romano says that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering him as an option.

Reguilon assisted former Liverpool player Suso for Sevilla’s equaliser when they knocked United out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage, so they certainly know what he is capable of.

"They need to copy the Rio [Ferdinand] and [Nemanja] Vidic partnership from the past,” he said.

If only it were that easy, Dimitar.
