Manchester United morning headlines as Jadon Sancho update issued with title challenge backed

Here are the Manchester United morning headlines for Thursday, May 14.

Dortmund issue Sancho transfer update

Manchester United have been sent a warning about signing Jadon Sancho this summer.

Borussia Dortmund's managing director Carsten Cramer hopes the season hiatus will reduce the amount of money flying around in the transfer window - and will reduce interest in their 20-year-old England star.

United are keen to bring Sancho to Old Trafford this summer, but Cramer is hopeful of keeping him in Germany.

"We want to keep our players at Dortmund for as long as possible," he told BBC Sport . "The less clubs interested in Jadon, the less we would complain."

Cramer expects transfer fees to drop in the next few months, with more loans rather than permanent moves.

Sancho began his professional career with Dortmund in 2017, after a youth career with Watford and Manchester City, and is the youngest player to score 10 goals in a season for the club.

United can challenge for Premier League title - James

Daniel James says that United are in a great position to be Premier League title contenders next season.

"We’ve had quite a few boys injured, a few long-term obviously at different times, Marcus [Rashford], Paul [Pogba] and yourself," the 22-year-old told his team-mate Scott McTominay on The Huddle .

"I think once we get them all back and everyone is back together, I think with the rotation of the squad we’ve got a great chance of challenging for that title next season."

Although they were suffering with injuries, United also added Bruno Fernandes to the squad in January, and, before the season went on hold, were enjoying an 11-match unbeaten run and sat fifth in the table.

Scholes hails van Nistelrooy

Paul Scholes says Ruud van Nistelrooy is the best striker he played alongside during his career at Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy joined United from PSV Eindhoven in 2001 and scored 150 goals in a five-year spell before joining Real Madrid.

"I knew what he wanted, I knew the runs he'd make and where he wanted the ball,” he told the BBC .

"What a finisher. That man was just hungry. His life depended on scoring goals. He was the one I felt I had a great connection with."

Scholes had a huge selection of forwards to choose from - having played with Eric Cantona, Andrew Cole, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie among others.
