Manchester United morning headlines as Dortmund speak on Jadon Sancho plus Harry Maguire statement

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Sunday, 23 August.

Sancho to stay at Dortmund, director claims

Manchester United target Jadon Sancho will stay at Borussia Dortmund for at least one more season, according to club director Sebastian Kehl.

Sancho is United’s main transfer target this summer, but the club have so far been unable to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga side.

“Jadon is happy to stay. He has a contract until 2023,” Kehl told Goal .

“I see him on the pitch and he is very happy. Everyone is very happy to have him. He is going to be here for at least one more season.”

Maguire returning home following arrest

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will return to England after his trial in Greece was adjourned until Tuesday, August 25.

He was arrested on Thursday night after an incident on the island of Mykonos, where he was holidaying after the end of the season.

The centre-half is not required to attend the trial, so is free to leave the country.

Maguire appeared in court on neighbouring Syros on Saturday morning and pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces – the specifics of which are not currently known.

United have issued a statement related to the incident - you can read it here .

Room for improvement at full-back

MEN Sport have looked at how Manchester United’s young squad can improve next season – and two players in particular can add new attributes to their game.

Senior football writer Tyrone Marshall suggests that, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw both had good seasons last term, there is still room for improvement.

Marshall writes: “Specifically, they can get better going forward and if United are to make the leap to challenging Manchester City and Liverpool in the next two years, then you feel you’re going to need more from their full-backs in an attacking sense.”

United will want to kick on after last term’s third-place finish, and developing the players already in the squad is just as important as securing new signings.
