Dortmund stars react to club’s Sancho statement
Jadon Sancho could still end up at United before the start of the 2020/21 season, but the initial August 10 transfer deadline set by Borussia Dortmund has now passed.
The England forward joined his team-mates for their pre-season training camp, with the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc making a forceful comment about the player’s future.
"We plan with Jadon Sancho,” Zorc said . “He'll play for us next season. The decision is final. I think that answers all of the questions."
The news has been received well by Sancho’s Dortmund team-mates, with Erling Haaland telling Ruhr Nachrichten : “Jadon is a fantastic player, so I’m very happy that he is staying. I’m sure he’ll give me a couple of goals – but I’ll give him some too.”
Former Liverpool player Emre Can said: "I’m personally very happy that Jadon is staying. For me he is already a world class player. He’s very, very important to the team. I hope he will continue to score many goals and help us as a team to win as many games as possible.”
Sevilla confirmed as United’s Europa League semi-final opponents
United made hard work of FC Copenhagen to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League, eventually prevailing after extra-time.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will need to be on their game in the semi-final, with Sevilla their opponents after a late victory of their own against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Sevilla won 1-0 at the MSV Arena in Duisburg, with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saving a first-half penalty from Wolves’ Raul Jimenez and Lucas Ocampos scoring the only goal of the game in the 88th minute.
Ocampos, a Europa League finalist with Marseille in 2018, headed home Ever Banega’s free-kick to settle the game and prevent extra-time.
The semi-final will be held at Cologne’s Rhein-Energie Stadion on August 16, with the victors taking on Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk at the same stadium five days later.
