Manchester United morning headlines as Carlos Vinicius transfer rumour takes new twist

Here are the Manchester United morning headlines on Saturday, May 16.

Giggs gives Matondo verdict

United are keeping tabs on Schalke star Rabbi Matondo and Ryan Giggs has given his verdict on the 19-year-old Wales international.

"I was slightly surprised when he went [to Schalke], but he is a talent," Giggs said.

"If he is half as successful as [Jadon] Sancho has been so far I’ll be happy.

"He was really good with us in Albania [Wales’s last game in November]. I thought he did really well when he came on.

"Just like Dan James he has electrifying pace. And that always keeps you interested.”

Shaw and James train together

Luke Shaw and Daniel James have been pictured training alongside one another.

The United squad are due back at Carrington next week as the Premier League continues to work on its Project Restart plan.

If the proposals become reality, the 2019/20 season could resume in around a month’s time.

Shaw and James are the latest United stars to be seen stepping up their fitness.

Having been out of competitive action for around two months, United players will have to work hard to regain match fitness in the coming weeks.

United 'likely to miss out on Vinicius'

According to reports in Portugal, United are unlikely to strike a deal with Benfica for striker Carlos Vinicius this summer.

The forward has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, after scoring 15 goals in 22 league games in 2019/20.

However, O Jogo reports that Benfica want to keep hold of one of their most talented players.

The 25-year-old only joined the club from Napoli in summer 2019 in a deal worth €17m.
