Manchester United morning headlines as Bruno Fernandes makes Paul Pogba statement

Here are the Manchester United morning headlines for Thursday, June 4.

Fernandes labels Pogba one of the best in the world

Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba are yet to line up next to each other in a competitive game for Manchester United, but the wait might not go on for too much longer.

The French World Cup winner is fit again and back in training and his new Portuguese team-mate Fernandes says he’s looking forward to forging a partnership with the United No.6.

"I think Paul is one of the best players in Manchester and in the world," Fernandes said on Instagram Live chat.

“He was injured for a lot of time. The opportunity to play side to side with him is fantastic because you want to play with the best players you can."

Pogba’s return after surgery will provide United with a big boost for the rest of the season, as they look to secure Champions League football for 2020/21.

Henderson waiting on loan extension decision

United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has enjoyed an excellent campaign on loan at Sheffield United, where he has earned plaudits for his consistency and has been tipped to take over as England No.1 if he continues on his current trajectory of improvement.

He is currently waiting, though, to see what the future holds — in the short-term, at least.

Henderson’s loan expires on June 30 and, so far, no extension has been agreed between the Reds and the Blades, with the ‘keeper set to feature only in three further league games as things stand.

He could also play Sheffield United’s FA Cup quarter-final before the end of June, but the two clubs would need to find an agreement by then if Henderson is to see out the rest of the campaign at Bramall Lane.

Only two points separate the two teams as the battle for European spots continues.

Next opponents receive one positive coronavirus test result

United’s next Premier League game is away against Tottenham, if all goes to plan.

The north London club have received notification that the one positive test for coronavirus, out of nearly 1,200 taken this week, came from their club.

Although the individual remains unnamed, the club and league have both confirmed that they will now self-isolate for seven days before undergoing further testing. All players and staff at every top-flight club remain subject to testing twice weekly, to ensure a return to action is as safe as possible.
