I share Jurgen Klopp’s frustration over fixture scheduling for television with Liverpool having to play in the early Saturday kick-off next weekend after a Wednesday night Champions League game.
Manchester United were moaning about it the other week but we’ve had to do it plenty of times.
You can have it on television at a different time, people will still watch it.
The networks and the game’s authorities have a couple of weeks to do things and can move games around a little bit, it’s just common sense.
This Sunday just gone, there were four slots for televised games. I loved it, a whole day watching football on the telly!
All these teams like Liverpool who are bringing in all the money and status from competing in Europe, you’ve got to give them a bit of leeway.
That’s what they used to do in Spain over 30 years ago when I was playing for Real Sociedad.
They’d give you an extra day because you were in the UEFA Cup.
It just doesn’t make sense to me how those making the decisions are scheduling to the detriment of Liverpool who are flying the flag for the Premier League in the Champions League.
The manager can afford to shuffle his pack a bit though.
If we do the business against Atalanta on Wednesday then nobody can catch us.
There are lads champing at the bit to be given a chance so it will be an opportunity to take a look at them.
Keith Hill appointed Tranmere Rovers manager
As for my old club Tranmere Rovers, I wish the new manager Keith Hill the very best.
What a record from the caretakers, Ian Dawes and Andy Parkinson – they’ll go down in Tranmere history as the best managers with their 100% record and signing off with a 5-0 win – and I’d have liked to have seen them given a go over a longer period.
The lads responded to them but Mark Palios has identified an experienced candidate but the two lads did brilliant to stabilise the team and give them belief to take things on.
