Manchester United might have found their ideal Paul Pogba replacement

Paul Pogba's hopes of sealing the move away from Manchester United that he so craves were handed a considerable boost last week with the news that Mino Raiola's transfer ban is set to be lifted.

The controversial agent was handed a three-month suspension earlier in the window that looked as though it could impact Pogba's chances of moving on from Old Trafford.

However, it was reported by the Daily Mail on Friday that the Court of Arbitration for Sport is set to suspend Raiola's ban, leaving him free to broker transfers for his high-profile clients - including Pogba and Matthijs de Ligt.

Real Madrid remain the favourites to land the World Cup-winning midfielder but Juventus are also credited with an interest in re-signing the player who spent four years in Turin between 2012 and 2016.

Pogba, for all his qualities, is a disruptive influence at United and he should be offloaded providing the Reds can recoup the £89m they parted with to sign the 26-year-old three years ago.

Signing a replacement for Pogba will not be cheap, but they have been given encouragement to pursue one of the stars of this season's Champions League after Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan said the 22-year-old Donny van de Beek is eyeing a move to United.

"Van de Beek has his eyes set on the Premier League," Van der Kraan told talkSPORT on Monday. "He is a proper Premier League player with an Ajax education and can play in many positions in midfield.

"He wants a move to Man United or Spurs and his agent says if that materialises that would be right up his street."

Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and Dusan Tadic were the headline grabbers in Ajax's run to the semi-finals of the European Cup but Van de Beek's contribution to their impressive campaign was equally important.

He netted the equaliser in Ajax's quarter-final win away to Juventus before netting the only goal of the game in the semi-final first leg against Tottenham in North London.

While Van de Beek would not be a like-for-like replacement for Pogba in terms of his style - there are few of those, if any, in world football - he is a central midfielder who, similarly to Pogba, tends to thrive when deployed in a slightly more advanced position.

Technically superb, as many who emerge from Ajax's famed De Toemkost academy are, he would improve United's ball retention, an aspect of the game that the Reds have struggled with in recent years due to a lack of proficient midfielders.

United are prioritising emerging young talent in the transfer window and Van de Beek well and truly fits the bill.
