Manchester United might already have their own Harry Kane

With one feint of the shoulder, Mason Greenwood effortlessly glided past Sergio Reguilon before striking home to score Manchester United's third goal against Tottenham.

It was brilliant centre-forward play from Greenwood at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, it was the type of goal which Harry Kane would be proud of, the type that Kane regularly scored at White Hart Lane when he exploded into Spurs' starting XI seven years ago.

Kane burst onto the scene like only a few Premier League greats have before him, making a lasting impression with his world-class ability in front of goal and he was immediately entrusted with carrying the burden of leading Tottenham's attack at just 21 years of age.

Was that the correct decision? Well, Kane now has 165 Premier League goals and his record speaks louder than any words could.

While his regular inclusion in that Tottenham side was arguably initially circumstantial, Kane proved he was good enough, so he was old enough. It's an overused cliche but the message has stood the test of time and it's one Ole Gunnar Solskjaer perhaps needs to heed.

Years on from Kane's debut, he's established himself as one of the world's finest centre-forwards, his reputation is utterly deserved and the two time Golden Boot winner is now one of the most sought-after players in the game despite his record with injury.

This week's revelations, with Kane wanting to leave Tottenham after becoming increasingly frustrated with the club's lack of direction, have naturally seen the Reds linked with the 27-year-old, but do United really need to sign Kane this summer?

That seems a bizarre thought to ponder - why wouldn't United want one of the world's best strikers? One could argue, United already have their own Kane, though, and it would be foolish to ignore the parallels between his and Greenwood's emergence.

Greenwood enjoyed a spectacular full debut season last campaign, scoring 17 goals from mostly playing on the right-wing, which is a testament to his innate knack of scoring goals, something the youngster has sent a timely reminder of in recent weeks.

The 19-year-old has been in electric form for United as the season reaches its conclusion, leaving fans wondering just how far he could go, looking forward to next season with the hope of watching the academy product thrive.

It seems likely Greenwood can take that step. He's equipped with the necessary attributes and he's finally now got the perfect mentor ahead of him, with Edinson Cavani signing a contract extension which will see him play until 2022.

Kane was trusted with playing down the middle for Tottenham and next season it's time for Solskjaer to give Greenwood that opportunity.
