Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba reveals he had 'no idea' who Graeme Souness was

Paul Pogba has responded to criticism of his performances by Graeme Souness by revealing he didn’t know who the former player was.

Souness, a regular pundit on Sky Sports, is a three-time European Cup winner from his playing days with Liverpool, as well as a title-winner with the Reds and north of the border with Rangers.

Now in his media capacity, Souness has often been asked about Pogba’s style of play and mentality, and has said his big complaint about the French midfielder is that his attitude is not the same win-at-all-costs mentality as Souness’ own from his playing days.

Asked on a Manchester United podcast about those comments, the Old Trafford No 6 offered his response, noting that he doesn’t hang around after the final whistle to check out pundits’ views.

“I didn’t even know who he was, really,” he said.

“I heard he was a great player and stuff like that. I know the face but [not] the name.

“Like I said, I’m not someone that watches a lot of (punditry), I watch a lot of football but I don’t stay after the game to listen to what they say about ‘Why they did this’ or ‘Why they did that’.

“I like to focus on football.”

Pogba was just about ready to return to full fitness and training before the recent postponement of games, having missed much of the current season through injury.

Speculation has persisted over his United future, particularly since the January arrival of Bruno Fernandes.
