Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba posts injury update

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has posted an injury update on his Instagram page showing he has had his cast removed following surgery on his ankle.

The France international underwent an operation on his right ankle earlier this month and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping to have the midfielder back in contention soon after missing him for the majority of the season.

The 26-year-old has made just eight appearances in all competitions during the current campaign with two injuries keeping him out. The midfielder made his return in the defeat against Watford just before Christmas and played the second half of the Boxing Day win against Newcastle and Solskjaer confirmed a week later that he was set to be sidelined again as he was going for surgery.

Pogba has been keeping fans up to date with his progress on his Instagram page and on Monday afternoon, ahead of United's League Cup semi final second leg clash against Manchester City on Wednesday, he posted a picture with his cast off with the caption 'patience' along with a key emoji.

Solskjaer said at the start of the month that he expected Pogba to only be sidelined for three to four weeks and with his cast coming off there's the possibility he could return after the winter break.

"Paul came back after a long spell out, two games, couldn’t go to Burnley, felt his ankle was sore, we did a scan and it’s not the same injury, it’s a different injury and when you get that scan you consult your own medical people as well like I did, you want the best second opinion and the advice was to have it done," the United manager said at the start of January.

"It’s not a major one and probably as I said three or four weeks."
