Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic urges Serbian FA to make Vidic appointment

Nemanja Matic has urged the Serbian FA to appoint Manchester United great Nemanja Vidic as the new chief of their football association.

The current United midfielder believes appointing someone with experience like Vidic could hold the key to restoring Serbia's pride at international level, having recently lost to Scotland on penalties in their play-off for the European Championships.

Matic retired from international duty back in August as he decided to focus on his club career with United and the 32-year-old has spoken critically of the way his nation currently handle footballing matters.

The former Chelsea man is eager to see a change at the top of the Serbian FA and has urged president Aleksandar Vucic to lend support to Vidic if he decided to take the job.

“Vidic at the helm of the Serbian Football Association (FSS) is the route to saving the country’s soccer,” Matic said in an open letter to the public circulated by Serbian media.

“I am not asking for anyone to lose their job, but I am asking for Vidic to be put in charge because I am completely convinced he will do everything in his power for the benefit of Serbia’s football.

“He needs the government’s support too because football is important to us.

“We all know that president Aleksandar Vucic is a big sports fan, hence I am inviting him to help persuade Vidic to take on the massive job of getting our football back on its feet.”
