Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard sent home from England duty

Jesse Lingard has handed Manchester United a possible fitness worry after he was sent home from England duty this weekend.

Lingard missed England training on Friday, and was not named in the starting line-up or on the bench for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Bulgaria at Wembley on Saturday.

The FA then confirmed that Lingard will return to United through illness and won't feature against Kosovo on Tuesday.

They tweeted: "#ThreeLions midfielder [Jesse Lingard] has returned to his club through illness. Get well soon, Jesse!"

Given Lingard is not expected to recover by Tuesday, United will be hoping his illness is not too serious and won't keep him out of training for much longer ahead of their Premier League meeting with Leicester next Saturday.

Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire were both named in Gareth Southgate's starting XI against Bulgaria, and will be hopeful of more game time against Kosovo at Southampton's St Mary's next week.
