Manchester United midfielder James Garner set for new loan after Watford deal terminated

Manchester United midfielder James Garner is set to agree a new Championship loan deal after his stay at Watford was cut short.

The 19-year-old midfielder enjoyed a successful start to the new season for the Hornets, but saw playing time greatly reduced following their managerial change.

Garner has played just 40 minutes of football since 19 December - the same day previous manager Vladimir Ivic was replaced by Xisco Munoz.

United and Watford both agreed to terminate the season-long loan early, with Garner now set to sign for Championship rivals Nottingham Forest for the remainder of the campaign.

Forest have turned their attention to Garner after Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling turned down a chance to join them earlier in the week.

Queens Park Rangers have also expressed an interest in signing Garner on loan, however he has opted to sign for Forest and will undergo a medical at the City Ground on Saturday, with an official announcement expected shortly.

Garner made his United debut as a substitute in a 3-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace in February 2019.

The teenager has made seven senior appearances in total for the first-team at Old Trafford.
