Manchester United midfielder Fred gets married

Fred got married this weekend and is expected to soon link up with his Manchester United teammates on their pre-season tour.

The Brazilian midfielder was a surprise omission from United's 28-man pre-season tour squad named by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this month and the club confirmed he and Matteo Darmian were both left out due to personal reasons.

Fred is believed to have booked his wedding for last weekend as he had hoped to be named in Brazil's squad for the Copa America, which ended on July 7.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder married Monique Salum in a more private setting last year and this year's ceremony appears to have been arranged to give the bride and groom the chance to celebrate with friends and family.

Fred, along with Darmian, was one of five players who did not fly to Australia with the rest of the United squad for the tour of Australia and Asia earlier this month.

Alexis Sanchez is on holiday following his participation in the Copa America with Chile, Timothy Fosu-Mensah is still recovering from a serious knee injury and Dean Henderson is expected to return to Sheffield United on loan.

Fred joined United from Shakhtar for £52million last summer but endured a disappointing debut campaign in England.

It is not clear when he will join up with United's squad.

United take on Leeds in Perth on Wednesday before leaving Australia to continue their pre-season tour in Singapore, with Inter Milan the Reds' first opponents in the International Champions Cup on Saturday.
