Manchester United manager Solskjaer responds to Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill performances vs Liverpool

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is excited about the development of teenage striker Joe Hugill after he plundered four goals as Manchester United Under-23s thrashed Liverpool 6-3.

The young United side ran riot at the AXA Training Centre, with debutant Amad Diallo also scoring twice in the Premier League 2 fixture.

Diallo opened and finished the scoring for United, first slotting home a one-on-one after intercepting a pass before a Panenka penalty.

In between those goals Hugill, 17, scored four times, including a penalty of his own, to take his tally to eight goals in 11 appearances in the Under-23s Premier League 2.

The striker, signed from Sunderland last year, has impressed with Neil Wood's side and Solskjaer joked he'd be asking why he allowed Diallo to take the late penalty.

It was 18-year-old Diallo who was the star attraction, the January addition from Atalanta making his first appearance in a United shirt after his £37million switch from the Serie A club.

“Four goals by Hugill, he’s a top striker as well, we’re looking forward to seeing his development. Amad gets a good start and why Joe didn’t take the penalty himself to get five goals I’m going to ask him," Solskjaer told MUTV.
