Manchester United manager Solskjaer hints Erling Haaland has made a decision on his future

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested Erling Haaland has made a decision on his future as the January transfer window looms.

Solskjaer flew to meet Haaland's representatives on Friday amid Manchester United's interest in the Red Bull Salzburg striker, who has plundered 24 goals in 20 club appearances this season.

Haaland, 19, reputedly has a £20million release clause that is only active in the upcoming winter window and the Norway international visited the training grounds of Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund last week. Salsburg do not play again for two months due to the winter break in Austria.

Solskjaer refused to comment on his trip to Salzburg and was pressed on whether he had any advice to offer Haaland. "I don't comment on them speculations so that's it. He (Haaland) knows what he wants to do and he knows what he's going to do. So I don't have to give any advice to any other teams' players."

The United manager is understood to have flown to meet Haaland's camp in Salzburg early on Friday morning and an aircraft's activity log revealed the plane flew back to Manchester and then onto Stavanger Airport in Sola. Haaland's father, the former Leeds and Manchester City midfielder Alf Inge, was born in Stavanger.

Alf Inge Haaland told Norwegian outlet VG, who originally reported the story: "I hope you understand that I can't comment on all the rumours going on now." Haaland's camp are said to be unhappy the meeting with Solskjaer had leaked.

Solskjaer is believed to have attended a recruitment meeting at United's Carrington training complex on Thursday morning and sources have confirmed he was not present for United players' recovery session on Friday following the 4-0 Europa League win over AZ Alkmaar.

Solskjaer managed Haaland at Molde and the United scout Tommy Moller Nielsen watched him score all four Molde goals in their thrashing of Brann in July 2018.

United intend to have finalised their list of long-term targets in time for the winter window and the frugal fee Haaland could command - as well as the competition - have convinced Solskjaer to reach out to the Norway international.
