Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to play in 1999 reunion match vs Bayern Munich

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will play in Manchester United's 1999 Champions League reunion game against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on May 26.

The United manager, whose permanent role was announced on Thursday, will be joined by Teddy Sheringham, Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole in the Reds' forward line.

The United side, which is also set to feature David Beckham, will be managed by Sir Alex Ferguson who returns to the Old Trafford dug-out for the first time since his retirement after a trophy-laden 26 years in May 2013.

“I am delighted to be part of this very special reunion,” Solskjaer, who scored the winner in United's 2-1 victory against Bayern at the Camp Nou to secure United's Treble 20 years ago, said on the announcement of his participation in the game, the proceeds from which will support the Manchester United Foundation.

“Over the coming weeks I will be training hard to make sure the boss has me in the starting 11 this time around!  In all seriousness, it will be a great match and a chance to catch up with some old teammates, whilst raising vital funds for our Foundation.”

Sheringham, whose late goal laid the foundations for United's most famous comeback, said: “It’s nice to be asked to come back. I think it’s a great occasion and a great idea to get the game going. The fact we are going to get a lot of money for the Foundation, for the children of Manchester, I’m delighted to be part of it.”
