Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent selection message ahead of Chelsea fixture

Manchester United fans have called for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to select Brandon Williams at left-back for the upcoming match against Chelsea.

United will return to action for the first time in over two weeks when they travel to Stamford Bridge on Monday, following the Premier League's inaugural winter break.

The match is a crucial encounter for United's hopes of finishing in the top four and earning qualification to next season's Champions League.

United are six points behind Chelsea, who currently occupy fourth spot, but could half the deficit if they once again pick up a victory over the Blues.

The teams have already played twice this season, with United running out shock 4-0 winners at Old Trafford on the season's opening weekend and then knocking them out of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win in West London.

With so much at stake in their third encounter of the campaign, fans want to see Williams reinstated to the back-line.

MEN Sport asked United supporters: "Who should play at left-back for Manchester United against Chelsea on Monday?"

An overwhelming majority of 75.7 per cent of the 2,793 voters opted for Williams, who was dropped to the bench for the last outing against Wolves.

Williams' first domestic start for United was in the League Cup win at Chelsea and the teenager has continued to impress throughout the season.

He is competing for a place with Luke Shaw, who played in his stead against Wolves, but only 14.1 per cent of fans want to see him start the game.

Finally, 10.2 per cent would like to see both play, with Williams at left wing-back and Shaw operating on the left side of a back three.
