Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responds to Roy Keane's Jose Mourinho comments

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Manchester United players and management are singing from the same hymn sheet as he attempts to revert a run of seven defeats in nine games.

In the wake of Wednesday's derby defeat to City at Old Trafford Roy Keane said United's players would throw Solskjaer 'under the bus', just as they had done with Jose Mourinho.

“These are the same players who threw (former boss Jose) Mourinho under the bus and they will do exactly the same to Ole,” Keane said.

But Solskjaer insisted he wouldn't go the same way as Mourinho, who was sacked in December, and that the players were aware of his expectations.

"That was Roy Keane who said that wasn’t it? Of course that is not going to happen," Solskjaer said of the suggestion he would suffer the same fate.

"I speak to the players all the time, they know my expectations and standards. I have got three years here now and I am going to do whatever I can to make this club successful.

"We do that together, it is not like players against managers here. Supporters know, we know, we are doing this together and working together to improve. We are all in this together."

Solskjaer accepts that it is the manager who carries the can for poor performances and he is determined to be honest about United's current shortcomings.

One of those is a lack of fitness in the closing weeks of the season, something he is determined to put right over the summer.

Manchester United might have found a surprise transfer target

"Of course I am in charge of this. I pick the team, I decide what we do on the training pitch," Solskjaer added.

"When you are in the middle of a season you don’t too many drastic changes, you can’t really turn this group and work really much harder. Of course the fitness levels are not good enough for me.

"Maybe we have been caught up with that respect and pre-season is going to be a big mark for me and for all of us. I don’t want to talk about pre-season now because we have three massive games coming up but I like to answer honest and upfront questions and I think you have seen that."
