Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted at his preference for a prolific goalscorer after his former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane advised them to move for Harry Kane.
Tottenham figurehead Kane, 26, netted his 200th and 201st goals for Tottenham and England in Spurs' 5-0 drubbing of Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night and the striker has been linked with United in the past.
During the post-match analysis of United's draw with Liverpool on Sunday, Keane said, 'go and get Kane from Spurs'. When fellow pundit Gary Neville joked his popularity was about to plummet with Tottenham fans, Keane replied: "Just go and get him. What are you all staring at? He scores 20 goals in a season with his eyes shut. Go and get him."
"Roy's quite straightforward, isn't he?" Solskjaer smiled. "For us it's working hard. Getting Anthony back is gonna be a massive boost for us and I'm sure when Anthony [Martial] comes back that'll help Marcus [Rashford] as well.
"With the forwards we've got and the pace, I'm looking forward to the next few weeks."
Sir Alex Ferguson bought Solskjaer for £1.5million in the summer of 1996 after he failed to lure Alan Shearer from Blackburn and Newcastle paid a then-world record £15m to sign the Euro 96 Golden Boot winner.
Solskjaer struck up a formidable partnership with Ruud van Nistelrooy and enjoyed his most prolific season alongside the Dutchman, scoring 25 goals in 2001-02. Solskjaer namechecked those Premier League greats and current goal-getters Kane and Robert Lewandowski whilst speaking about United's current attacking options, who have mustered just 10 Premier League goals in nine.
"There aren't many Lewandowskis and Harry Kanes," Solskjaer said. "They're like Shearer, Van Nistelrooy - fantastic goalscorers.
"Ours are different types of players but I have to say I like someone who can finish half a chance and [Kane] does that. He's one of the best but he's a Tottenham player."
