Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts to worst ever day and gives update on transfers

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described Manchester United's 6-1 thumping as his 'worst day ever' as a manager.

Ten-man United trailed Spurs 4-1 at half-time at Old Trafford having taken the lead in the second minute through Bruno Fernandes. Serge Aurier and Harry Kane struck in the second-half to record the joint-worst defeat United have suffered in the Premier League era.

"Yeah, you can say that," Solskjaer said when asked if it was his lowest ebb connected with the club. "It's at home, it's a team that we assembled, that we hope we see the potential in it and we know how good they can be.

"But today all our mistakes came almost like Christmas, everything came at once. Too many mistakes against a good team and you'll be punished.

"It's very embarrassing and hurt all the players and hurt me. As a manager, it's my worst day ever. I hold my hand up and have to be responsible for this.

"I lost 5-0 as a player (against Newcastle in 1996) with United, we lost 6-1 (against Manchester City in 2011), we lost big results before and we have always bounced back and I promise that we'll do everything we can to turn this around."

United expect to announce the signings of striker Edinson Cavani and left-back Alex Telles before Monday's 11pm deadline for the international window but Solskjaer was vague about the incomings.

"Tonight is about addressing this and we know what we want to do and you'll probably know more tomorrow night when the window closes," Solskjaer stressed. "We need to look at what we've got here and make more of that.

"The world is a different world at the moment. Everyone wants to have the squad they want as early as possible, we are still in a position where we can add to this. I've got a squad that I need to get more out of but we can still maybe, by tomorrow night, have an addition."

Solskjaer also added he has 'no issue' with the head of corporate development Matt Judge's role in negotiating transfers.
