Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mike Phelan fly to Barcelona ahead of Champions League clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and members of his coaching team Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna are travelling to Barcelona on Saturday in preparation for Wednesday's Champions League clash.

Manchester United will face the La Liga giants at Old Trafford in the first leg of the tournament's quarter-final and Solskjaer and his team have embarked on the scouting mission ahead of Wednesday night's clash.

Phelan posted a photo on Twitter of Solskjaer and McKenna in their seats on the private plane to Spain, with an accompanying caption that read:

"En route to F.C. Barcelona with these X Factor contestants. It was a flat cap, sheepskin coat and a pie at half time when I started out."

The Catalan giants will have a tough test on Saturday night as they face the notoriously difficult Atletico Madrid in the Nou Camp.

Barca have a healthy eight point lead at the top of La Liga but it's Atletico who sit in second place, meaning a victory for Diego Simeone's side could cut the deficit down to five and make for a tighter run in with seven games remaining.

As a result it's unlikely that Barcelona gaffer Ernesto Valverde will play a weakened side for the clash in anticipation for facing United, with the vast majority of his key players named in the match day squad.

Only the suspended Arturo Vidal and the injured Ousmane Dembele and Rafinha have not been included.

Manchester United might have a surprise new contender to be the next club captain

In contrast United have a free weekend due the FA Cup semi-final fixtures and after taking training on Saturday morning it has given Solskjaer the opportunity to see his next opponents in the flesh to hopefully gain a keen insight that will inspire another remarkable Champions League triumph.

United will face Barcelona at Old Trafford on Wednesday, April 10 with the second leg coming the following week on Tuesday, April 16.
