Manchester United, Man City and other Premier League clubs agree to suspend Russia broadcast rights after Ukraine invasion

Manchester United and Man City have both agreed, along with other clubs and the Premier League, to suspend Russian broadcast rights.

This news comes following the country's invasion of neighbouring Ukraine. Players and fans across the league showed solidarity with Russia this weekend prior to their matches.

In a statement the Premier League said: "The Premier League and its clubs today unanimously agreed to suspend our agreement with Russian broadcast partner Rambler (Okko Sport) with immediate effect and to donate £1million to support the people of Ukraine. The league strongly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We call for peace and our thoughts are with all those impacted.

"The £1million donation will be made to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to deliver humanitarian aid directly to those in need. This action follows a weekend of matches displaying League-wide support for Ukraine."

In the Manchester derby on Sunday, players and fans from both sides joined in with a moment's applause to show solidarity. Captains Kevin De Bruyne and Harry Maguire wore the Ukrainian flag on their armbands too.

City's Oleksandr Zinchenko who plays for the Ukrainian national team has been vocal in his opposition to the invasion. The Premier League added that their show of solidarity with Ukraine was broadcast 'all over the world' this weekend.
