Tottenham were linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic in the January transfer window.
And with the Serbian contract coming to an end at Old trafford this season, there was a feeling that Jose Mourinho could reunite with the midfielder for a third time.
The Serbian has so far played for two clubs under Jose Mourinho. He would add a third to that list if he joined Spurs in the new year.
During his time playing for the Portuguese at Chelsea he won a Premier League title.
Asked about a possible reunion with Mourinho in north London, Matic told Omnisport before the January transfer window opened: "As I know, you never know what’s going to happen in life.
"At the moment I’m a Manchester United player and very focused on my job and in the future we will see what’s going to happen."
Having initially struggled to impose himself under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Matic has become an integral part of the first team, particularly since December last year, working his way into Solksjaer’s plans.
And his impressive form has led to United making a big decision over his future at Old Trafford.
Although his current deal expires in June, United had the option to extend Matic's contract by a further 12 months, an option which they have taken.
That means that if Mourinho and Tottenham do want to go in for the 31-year-old during the summer transfer window, they will have to pay for him, rather than being able to secure his services on a free.
Not only that, but reports suggest that United are contemplating offering the Serbian an even longer contract to remain at the club.
