Manchester United make Ralf Rangnick decision after Newcastle United links

Manchester United are eyeing former RB Leipzig head coach Ralf Rangnick for their vacant managerial position.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have shortlisted Rangnick to take over as interim manager.

The German was one of the names touted for the newly created role of Technical Director, or Director of Football at Newcastle United.

His success in taking RB Leipzig to the Bundesliga has made him one of the most attractive coaches in European football, and the Magpies were reported to be one of those suitors.

However, Rangnick is believed to be Man United's preferred option to manage the club for the rest of the season if they cannot prise Pochettino from PSG.

The Red Devils have had an approach for the former Tottenham Hotspur manager rebuffed by PSG, but remain confident of securing his signature.

Rangnick has spent the majority of his career coaching in Germany but moved into a senior management position with RB Salzburg in 2012.

He's widely heralded for unearthing the likes of Sadio Mane for Salzburg and signing Joshua Kimmich, Naby Keita, Dayot Upamecano, and Timo Werner at Leipzig.

Rangnick left Leipzig last year after a protracted move to AC Milan collapsed and joined Lokomotiv in the summer.
