Manchester United make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer future decision as Liverpool clash looms

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under mounting pressure after Saturday's defeat to Leicester City.

The Manchester club fell to their second defeat of the season against the Foxes after they were beaten 1-0 by Aston villa last month.

Things have no gone from bad to worse disappointing 1-1 draw with Everton before the international break and supporters are starting to become frustrated with the Norwegian.

According to The Athletic, however, Solskjaer will not be sacked in the immediate future.

The 48-year-old was first appointed in 2018 as caretaker manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

He was later given the permanent job in the spring and took United to a third and second-placed finish in his first two full seasons as boss.

He signed a new long-term contract earlier this year, with the option to extend by a further year - which will take his tenure to at least 2024.

The Athletic state Solskjaer has 'a lot of credit in the bank at board level', despite his side's patchy form.

This means he'll be in the dugout when the Reds travel to Old Trafford next weekend.

Liverpool's last meeting with United was towards the end of last season and Jurgen Klopp's side were 4-2 winners on the day.

Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino were the goalscorers and they'll hope for a similar outcome this time around.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are starting to pull away at the top of the table, so Solskjaer will want next Sunday to be a turning point for his side as they look to close in on the top three.
