Manchester United make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decision which Newcastle's owners will be wary of

Manchester United are reportedly considering whether to sack manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which could put Newcastle United’s owners on alert.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club’s board are seriously contemplating whether to relieve Solskjaer of his duties ahead of their next match of the season against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Man United have endured a disappointing start to their Premier League campaign which was compounded by yesterday’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have lost three of their last four league matches and Sunday’s humiliation to Jurgen Klopp’s side was their heaviest ever home loss to Liverpool in history.

And with Man United potentially set to enter the market for a new boss, that could put Newcastle’s hierarchy on alert as they also search for a replacement for Steve Bruce following last week’s sacking.

Odds taken from Grosvenor Sport have Antonio Conte, Brendan Rodgers, and Erik ten Hag as three of the top five favourites for the job at Old Trafford and they have all also been linked with the vacancy at Tyneside.

Thanks to the Magpies’ recent takeover, Newcastle are now able to shop in a similar market to English football’s biggest clubs due to the funds now at their disposal.

But given their current situation in the league, where they currently sit in the bottom three after no wins from their opening nine matches, the pull of Man United may frustrate Newcastle in their search for a manager.

The MEN have also reported that Conte would potentially be interested in the role at the Red Devils, suggesting managers of that pedigree are far more likely to opt for Manchester rather than St James’ Park - at least for now.
