Manchester United make decision over Europa League trophy parade

Manchester United will not hold an open-top bus parade if they win the Europa League this season.

United are set to meet Tottenham in the Bilbao showpiece on Wednesday, May 21, as both teams look to make a success of an otherwise miserable season.

United sit 16th in the Premier League following Sunday's 2-0 home loss to West Ham, one place ahead of Spurs in 17th, who also lost at home on Sunday as Crystal Palace earned a London derby win.

United and Spurs both have Premier League games, their final of the season, four days after the final, and Ruben Amorim & Co. will fly out to Asia on the same day for a post-season tour. Players from both teams will then be required to report for international duty with their respective nations in June.

It leaves little time for trophy celebrations and, according to The Times, United will instead host a barbecue for players, staff and their families the day after the final, on Thursday, May 22, should they triumph in Spain.

The Times report that Spurs are expected hold a parade should they win their first trophy since winning the League Cup in 2008, and first European trophy since 1984.

United won the Europa League in 2017, the same year they also won the Carabao Cup, but did not hold a trophy parade.

Newcastle earlier this season held a trophy parade for winning the Carabao Cup, where an estimated 300,000 supporters lined the city centre streets and attended further celebrations on the Town Moor.

Liverpool are expected to hold a trophy parade following the end of the season to celebrate winning the Premier League.
