Manchester United make decision on future of Nottingham Forest loanee James Garner

James Garner has been one of Nottingham Forest’s top performers in the Championship since his arrival during the January transfer window.

The midfielder arrived at the City Ground on loan from Premier League giants Manchester United to get more first team appearances under his belt.

And the 20-year-old has made a big impact at the club, playing a total of 15 times and scoring three goals, including two in his last three Championship games.

His performances have led to the Reds hoping they will be able to complete a deal that will see the player stay at the City Ground for another season.

And it now seems that his parent club have made a decision about his future, with the Sun reporting that the Red Devils will offer Garner a new deal at Old Trafford before sending him on loan again.

Manchester United are said to be keen to see the midfielder go overseas in order to gain more experience, but could ‘settle’ for him returning to the Championship.

That could be good news for Forest, although there is said to be interest from the Premier League for the midfielder’s services .

Speaking about a potential second spell for the player at the City Ground next season, Reds manager Chris Hughton remained coy on the situation, but spoke about his ‘very good’ relationship with United.

“At this moment, my thoughts are very much on what he’s giving us and how he’s helping us in the best way he can,” Hughton said.

“It’s also about us helping his development and us having the best relationship with Manchester United we can.

“And then we’ll see what happens.

“He’s not our player, so it’s very difficult to talk about him in any terms.

“All I can say is the relationship with United has been very good and we’re delighted with what James is giving us.”
