Manchester United make contact with Adrien Rabiot over summer transfer and more rumours

Manchester United have been in contact with Adrien Rabiot over a transfer in the upcoming window, according to reports.

MEN Sport understands United were monitoring Rabiot's situation at Paris Saint-Germain last summer after the Frenchman decided to run down his contract and leave on a free. United had tracked his progress since Louis van Gaal's time at the club but Rabiot opted against a switch to the Premier League to join Juventus instead.

The France international has endured a difficult first year with the Old Lady, making just 11 starts in Serie A, failing to register a single goal or assist in all competitions.

Various reports in Italy have suggested Juventus are preparing to cash in on the 25-year-old in the upcoming transfer window and Gazzetta dello Sport claim United have been in contact with his mother Veronique, who acts as his agent, over a switch.

Everton are also believed to be interested in the midfielder but a lack of Champions League football could be costly for any potential suitor.

MEN Sport understand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is focused on signing Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham in the upcoming window and a move for Rabiot is unlikely.

Elsewhere, reports in Spain claim United remain interested in signing Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona.

The defender has slipped down the pecking order this season, with injuries curtailing his progress and Clement Lenglet emerging as Gerard Pique's regular defensive partner.

Barcelona are expected to sell the defender in order to raise money for their summer business and Sport claim United retain a level of interest in the Frenchman.

They claim the Spanish giants are willing to sell him for just €30million which could be seen as a bargain in the current market but the outlet believes Umtiti will demand a huge pay rise at his new employers.

MEN Sport understands Solskjaer is happy with his options in defence and is not prioritising signing a defender this year.
